is involvement with the laboratory accreditation system commenced in 1985 when he joined the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for its laboratory accreditation scheme (NCTCF) and continues to this day. He retired from DST in 2004 as NABL Director, which helped him understand the problem(s) of laboratories and accreditation bodies.
He understood that the problem lies in the difference of understanding, of the laboratory-developed documents (Quality manual/ Management system manual, procedures etc.), amongst the successive assessors from accreditation body, which gets reflected in the successive assessment and re-assessments, on common grounds/clause of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, which makes laboratory do repeat amendments, for no fault at their end. He tried to harmonize it through assessor’s conclave, but it is yet to be resolved. Hope this book would serve the purpose of harmonization on this account and may evolve as the reference-book.
